It’s important to properly care for your toothbrush as well as keep it as clean as possible. Unfortunately, your toothbrush can collect germs throughout the day, which can make it extremely dirty and even ineffective while cleaning the smile. Our dentist, Dr. George Daszko, encourages you to keep your toothbrush in tip-top shape by doing the following things:

-Wash your hands before and after you brush your teeth.

-After you’re done brushing, rinse the brush with warm water and then place it upright in a place where it can dry.

-Don’t place a toothbrush cover that doesn’t have ventilation over the brush until the toothbrush bristles are completely dry. This is because the closed and moist environment can encourage bacteria growth.

-Make sure to use a completely dry toothbrush. If necessary, have two toothbrushes so they have time to dry between uses.

-Don’t share your toothbrush with anyone.

-Replace your toothbrush often, like every three to four months or once the toothbrush bristles have frayed. It’s also important to replace your brush after you have been sick.
